Kids get a lot of homework these days. While I am not going to get into the question of whether they get TOO MUCH homework, I can say that from a parent’s perspective, it’s very difficult to keep track of your child’s homework, especially if you have more than one child.
UpToUs offers a tool that makes the task of keeping track of your kids’ homework much easier. Once a classroom starts an UpToUs community, the teacher can post homework assignments into the community’s page. They can post each assignment, or focus on the major ones. It’s up to each community to decide.
Each homework assignment has a title, details and due date. The parents finally know which assignments their kids received, and can make sure they are submitted on time.
If you have more than one child, you can either view each of their homework assignments on their classroom communities’ pages, or you can enter your UpToUs Personal Organizer and view the entire list of homework on one screen.

Here’s the thing: parents should not stay on top of their children’s homework; children should learn to stay on top, keep track, organize their own homework. Parents complain to me that they have to sit with their children while they do their homework, their children won’t do their homework without being nagged, etc. We have parents checking their middle and high school children’s homework, staying up to do science projects- it’s insane. We must teach our kids how to organize their own homework and be responsible for turning it in- or suffer the consequences.
Hi Angela,
Thank you for your comment. In an ideal world, parents should stay out of their kids’ responsibilities. However, the reality is that SOME parental guidance is often needed, especially in elementary school.
My own kids (first and third grade) are very responsible, but I still like to be involved, not in the sense that I sit with them or nag, but in the sense that I know what’s going on.
